OJK Chairman Explains Indonesian Capital Market Achievements in 2023
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar said that the Indonesian capital market grew strongly and recorded a number of important achievements throughout 2023.
JCI closed up 6.16 percent to 7,272 throughout 2023 and was the second-best in Southeast Asia after Vietnam. The market capitalization of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) was recorded at IDR 11,674 trillion.
"In terms of growth, (this figure increased) 22.9 percent compared to the previous year," said Mahendra at the opening of 2024 stock exchange trading, Tuesday, January 2.
Mahendra said that there was an increase in funds in the capital market through public offerings.
"As of December 29, 2023, OJK has issued 222 public offerings, consisting of 77 initial public offerings of shares, 25 limited public offerings, 120 public offerings of debt securities and/or sukuk," he said.
The total collection of funds in the capital market throughout 2023 will reach IDR 255.21 trillion.

This figure is far above the stated target of IDR 200 trillion.
He also revealed that the total number of investors in the Indonesian capital market has now reached 12.16 million or an increase of 5 times in the last 4 years, with the majority being dominated by investors under 40 years of age.
"Meanwhile, those aged 30 years account for 55.65 percent of the total Single Investor Identification (SID)," he said.
