Apriyani/Fadia World Championship Silver Medal Becomes BWF Highlight: Third Throughout Indonesia's History

JAKARTA - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) highlighted the silver medal that was secured by Indonesian women's doubles, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia at the 2023 Badminton World Championship which was held last August.

In the most prestigious tournament, Apriyani/Fadia finished the match with a runner-up title. They got that result after losing to the first seed from China, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan 16-21, 12-21 at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Despite being runner-up and bringing home a silver medal, the BWF medal that Apriyani/Fadia brought was the first for Indonesia since it was last won in 1995 by Lili Tampi/Finarsih.

Apriyani/Fadia's notes then became the third acquisition for Indonesia after being first achieved by Verawaty Fadjri/Imelda Wiguna in 1980.

Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti provided a little entertainment for Indonesia by becoming women's doubles runners-up. This is the first silver medal for Indonesia since 1995 and the third silver medal in history," BWF wrote on their official website quoted on Sunday, December 31.

In the 28th edition of the tournament, Apriyani/Fadia were indeed the only representatives of Indonesia to get medals. The world number seven pair won silver at the 2023 Badminton World Championships.

Winning a silver medal is the highest achievement for Indonesian women's doubles at the Badminton World Championships. So far, no Indonesian women's doubles has won the World Championships.
