Jokowi Officially Dismisses Firli Bahuri As Chairman Of The KPK

JAKARTA - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had approved Firli Bahuri's resignation as Chairman of the KPK. The Presidential Decree (Keppres) was signed Thursday night, December 28.

"The president has signed Presidential Decree No. 129/P of 2023 concerning the dismissal of Mr. Firli Bahuri as Chairman and concurrently a member of the KPK for the 2019-2024 term," Ari said when confirmed by reporters, Friday, December 29.

Ari said this decision had been in effect since it was enacted last night. There are three considerations that President Jokowi has approved Firli's resignation.

First, continued Ari, the Presidential Decree was signed because of Firli's resignation. The letter came in on Friday, December 22 yesterday.

"Second, (Keppres signed based on, red) Decision of the KPK Council Number 03/DEWAN PENGAWAS/ETIK/12/2023 dated December 27, 2023," he said.

Next, President Jokowi refers to Article 32 of the KPK Law. "The dismissal of the KPK leadership is determined through the Presidential Decree," said Ari.

Previously reported, Firli Bahuri initially submitted a letter asking to be dismissed to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) through the Ministry of State Secretary (Kemensetneg). This submission was made after he was named by Polda Metro Jaya as a suspect in the alleged extortion or acceptance of gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

However, the palace decided not to proceed or reject it. Because, in the rules of the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019 the dismissal cannot be done just because it is requested.

The KPK leadership, based on the law, can only be dismissed with various conditions. Including if you die or resign.

Meanwhile, Firli has also been decided to violate the three code of ethics of the head of the anti-corruption commission. One of them, he was found guilty of having a meeting with former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo and was given severe sanctions, namely being asked to resign from his position.
