Ministry Of Manpower Sends Manpower Supervisory Team Due To Implementation Of ITSS Smelter

The Ministry of Manpower (kemnaker) has dispatched a labor control team to Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi.

The Ministry of Manpower dispatched a labor control team to Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, following a work accident that left a number of workers dead and injured in the area.

The furnace explosion at PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel's nickel processing facility in the area managed by PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) on Sunday, December 24, was reported to have killed 13 workers and 39 workers injured.

"Responding to the accident, the Head of Manpower Office of Central Sulawesi Province immediately dispatched the Manpower Supervisory Team. The Manpower Supervisory Team of the Ministry of Manpower will also drop Monday, December 25, 2023," said Director General of Manpower and Safety and Work Health Supervision of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) Haiyani Rumodang quoting Antara.

According to him, the Ministry of Manpower coordinates with the Manpower Office of Central Sulawesi Province and the company concerned in handling the work accident case.

He explained that the metal smelting industry is classified as an industry with a high risk of danger, so it is obligatory to apply high occupational safety and health standards (K3).

"So it must be ensured that all circumstances comply with the K3 requirements, especially in the smelter industry which has a high risk of danger. Guidance continues, including ensuring that K3 procedures and personnel meet K3 standards," he said.

"I am concerned about the incident that occurred at PT IMIP. I am also deeply sorry for the deaths of dozens of workers and dozens of other workers who were injured," said Haiyani.

He ensured that the injured workers and the heirs of workers who died in work accidents in the PT IMIP area would benefit from the employment social security program.
