JAKARTA - The police said that the gunfire that occurred around the runway (runway) of Ilaga Airport, Papua, began with an attack by an armed criminal group (KKB). They attacked the Paskhas members who were on guard.
"At around 09.20 WIT, 2 KKBs were observed creeping towards the Paskhas observation post and attacking," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Mustofa Kamal in his statement, Friday, February 19.
When attacked, Paskhas members fought back. There was gunfire at the location.
One KKB member died. He had gunshot wounds to the body.
"At around 11:50 WIT, it was found that there were victims on the KKB side and had been evacuated to the Ilaga Puskesmas," he said.
Armed contact between TNI-Polri personnel and armed criminal groups (KKB) lasted 2.5 hours. As a result of the gunfire, a KKB member named Tera Wamang died.
Based on the reports received, it was recorded that five members of the KKB were using short guns when the shootout occurred.
