Cheap Electric Cars From Lucid Motors Can Come Faster Than Estimated
JAKARTA - Competition in the automotive industry is getting fiercer by continuing to compete for manufacturers to introduce electric cars at affordable prices, and Lucid Motors participates in the business.
Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid Motors, expressed the company's intention to release electric vehicles (EVs) at a price of around US$50,000 (around Rp776 million), as an effort to continue competing with Tesla. The statement was quoted from the Electrek website, Thursday, December 21.
Previously, Lucid had planned to launch an economic electric car by 2030. However, Rawlinson, who was previously involved in the development of Tesla cars, confirmed that the launch time would not be that long.
"I officially declare the middle of the decade, and that statement has been misquoted as the end of the decade (30). There are still a few more years, but it is close," he told Autocar.
Furthermore, Rawlinson explained that the economic process of developing a new car will take about three and a half years, and Lucid Motors has started its steps. Therefore, it can be hoped that the car will be available soon.
Rawlinson emphasized that the latest electric vehicle from Lucid Motors will remain competitive. This is because the company has advanced technology that allows cars to have a wider reach with more efficient battery usage.
"If you can cover a certain distance with less battery, you can make the car more affordable than others," he added.
It is known, Lucid's Air, an electric sedan made by Lucid, is one of the long-range electric vehicles with a range of up to 516 miles (830 km). This success was obtained thanks to the powertrain component, battery chemicals, and sophisticated internal design.
The company, which was founded in 2007, produces its vehicles in Arizona, USA. One of its products, Lucid Air Saphire, is sold for around IDR 3.8 billion, has 1,234 dk of power and 161 Nm of torque.
