Task Force COVID-19: Avoid Masks With Air Valves
JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Task Force (Task Force) Handling COVID-19 Wiku Adisasmito asked the public to no longer use cloth masks or even medics that have air valves. This is done to prevent the entry of viruses through these valves.
"Avoid using a mask that has an air valve because it could potentially become an entry hole for the virus", Wiku said in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Thursday, February 18.
Wiku explained several ways that can be done to increase mask filtration against the COVID-19 virus. The first way is to use a mask that has a wire in the nose that aims to follow the shape of the nose and prevent the entry of the virus.
"In addition, the mask buffer can also be used so that the mask can be worn perfectly and conforms to the shape of the face. Use a mask buffer with an elastic material to keep it comfortable but also always closed", he said.
Meanwhile, for loose masks, he said, they can also be tied or folded so that the nose and mouth can be closed completely.
Not only this method, Wiku also explained that there is a new method recommended by the American Centers for Disease Control (CDC), namely coating masks. However, this mask cannot be coated carelessly.
"Do not combine two medical masks at the same time. Because medical masks are not designed to be used in two layers simultaneously because they do not increase filtration or the suitability of masks", he said.
Meanwhile, for the KN-95 type mask, he said, it should not be necessary to combine or layer it with other masks.
"The KN-95 mask is used alone and does not cover the kn95 mask with any type of mask, either as the first or second layer", he explained.
He said all of these things must be considered by the public because wearing masks appropriately is a way to prevent transmission of COVID-19.
"Wearing a mask properly is better than not wearing a mask at all. For that I beg the public to really consistently and correctly wear masks in all public places when they are with anyone who does not live together", he concluded.
