Pertagas’ Contribution To Reducing Carbon Emissions Reaches 17,135 Tons Equivalent To CO2
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 17,135 tonnes of C02 equivalent. This amount is equivalent to 11.02 percent of the business as usual (BAU) projection throughout 2022.
Pertagas President Director Gamal Imam Santoso said that as an affiliate of Pertamina Gas Subholding, Pertagas continues to strive to support the government's program, namely the energy transition through expanding the utilization of natural gas as an energy source, which is cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
"This effort is aimed at achieving net zero emissions by 2060," he said, citing Antara.
According to him, Pertagas recently won the 2023 Platts Global Energy Awards (PGEA) in the Energy Transition-Midstream category, which was organized by S&P Global Commodity Insight.
"This award reflects Pertagas' consistency for more than sixteen years in distributing clean energy in a sustainable manner, while still giving the highest priority to aspects of operational excellence. By becoming part of the large Subholding Gas family, we hope to play a real role in managing national natural gas infrastructure, " said Gamal, who received the award directly at Cipriani Wall Street, New York, USA.
He also added that the award was won for the contribution of all Pertagas officers who continue to innovate in responding to global challenges and are consistent in maintaining national energy security.
"Notification regarding how Pertagas and the Subholding Gas Group have survived the pandemic and continued to survive and even improved their performance, is one of the judging benchmarks that will serve as a whip for all Subholding Gas Officers to continue the positive trend in the future," he said.
According to Gamal, Pertagas will continue to be committed to distributing reliable energy to various strategic industries in the country.
"By managing and operating more than 77 segments and 3,339 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines, Pertagas has become a strength in meeting energy needs throughout Indonesia," he said.
The existence of Pertagas' business is also driven by the company's ability to develop business and take sustainable initiatives.
Pertagas has completed the Rokan oil pipeline, gas distribution via the Gresik-Semarang transmission pipeline, construction of the Senipah-Balikpapan gas pipeline, which is targeted for completion in December 2023, as well as penetration of the fuel oil pipeline in West Java.
Apart from that, Pertagas is helping to reduce dependence on the gas pipeline business through the development of retail CNG & LNG in Java, the initiation of hydrogen, the initiation of the dimethyl ether and biogas infrastructure business, as well as the initiation of natural gas infrastructure in eastern Indonesia.

Pertagas has eight working areas in Indonesia including Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan, consisting of six working areas handling natural gas pipeline networks and two working areas handling petroleum pipeline networks.
"We run an integrated management system and are equipped with competent human resources and adequate experience," said Gamal.
