Regarding "Threats" Of AI In The Creation Of Music Works, Iga Massardi: Human Ability Is Superior

JAKARTA - Iga Massardi, vocalist and guitarist of Bara Suara, saw that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the process of creating and producing musical works has not threatened the ability of musicians.

According to Iga, humans tend to be afraid when technological developments emerge. In fact, it's not something scary.

"We're always afraid first if there's new technology. After all, it's something scary. In the 1990s, maybe we couldn't imagine it to be a video call. It only happened in films. In the 1990s we were still using public phones, and now when we wake up in the morning we can see people's faces on cellphones. Well, this is a question like 'Are we ready?'," said Iga Massardi when met in Kemang, South Jakarta on Friday, December 15.

Iga is not worried when musicians are compared to AI. He feels that the abilities in humans are still superior. Especially about music, people listen to music because they want to know the reason the work was created

"Indeed, many say that this can replace musicians, but the most important thing from my shallow point of view is that people will be interested in hearing music, reading books, and watching movies because who made them and why the maker made them," said Iga Massardi.

"For example, someone made an abstract painting, AI could have made the same result, but there's no reason why he did that," he continued.

The 38-year-old musician saw that AI's capabilities so far are still limited to functionality, meaning that AI has not been able to present the story behind the creation of a work of art.

From music, for example from one of my favorite musicians, Cholil Mahmud. He made a song that narrated politics, and I know that Cholil is like that, he has a certain and interesting point of view. He can also make the protest become something elegant in lyric and musical. There is my admiration for a musician," he said.

However, Iga Massardi did not deny that AI is also useful in music production. He felt that many machines made a producer able to work faster.

"But if you look at the technical side, AI is very helpful. Because I see, for example, in terms of music production, it really speeds up the process, like wanting to preset and all kinds, that's actually basically AI too. How can he read graphics and frequencies, and finally he can find a match, it's been AI from years ago," said Iga Massardi.

"So, the point is how we talk about AI rather than being slaved by them," he said.
