Bulog: 12,500 Tons Of Rice Reserves Meet Central Sulawesi's Food Needs

JAKARTA - Perum Bulog, Central Sulawesi, said that 12,500 tons of government rice reserves will meet the public's consumption needs over the next two months.

"The stock of 12,500 tons is currently estimated to be able to fulfill not only for Christmas and New Year but for up to two months in early 2024," said Central Sulawesi Regional Office Bulog Regional Head (Kanwil) Heriswan as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 14.

According to him, rice demand increased from December 2023 to February 2024 so that his party seeks to stabilize stocks and prices through the cheap food movement.

"Since early December, a low-cost food movement has been carried out in a number of districts/cities as an effort to anticipate price and stock increases until elections are safe," he explained.

The cheap food movement in collaboration with Bulog with the Central Sulawesi Food Service was held in three regions in the province, namely Poso, Parigi Moutong and Donggala Regencies starting from 7 to 15 December 2023.

"Bulog stated readiness if there are Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) or district governments that want to cooperate in the cheap food movement," he said.

He said that previously Central Sulawesi received 4,700 tons of imported rice from Thailand and Bulog had distributed approximately 2,400 tons of food aid allocations in December and the rest were used for cheap market activities with local governments.

"Bulog is committed to the regional government to facilitate access to the community to get rice at affordable prices and the best quality," he said.
