PPATK: Reports Of Alleged Odd Transactions In The 2024 Election Increase By More Than 100 Percent

JAKARTA - Head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) Ivan Yustiavandana said transaction reports allegedly related to money laundering in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) campaign increased 100 percent in the second semester of 2023.

"We will see that transactions related to the General Election report to PPATK are very massive. The increase is more than 100 percent. In cash transactions, suspicious financial transactions, we will investigate this," Ivan said after attending the event "Dissemination: Securing the proceeds of cross-border crimes" in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 14.

According to him, PPATK found that several campaign activities were carried out without the movement of transactions in the Special Campaign Fund Account (RKDK).

"This means that there is a discrepancy. Campaign financing and all kinds of things, where did RKDK not move? We see the potential for someone to get an illegal source to help with the campaign," said Ivan.

He did not mention the names of legislative candidates or parties suspected of using funds from criminal acts for campaigns, but PPATK has reported this allegation to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu).

"We have conveyed several transactions related to extraordinary numbers. We are currently still waiting for responses from Bawaslu and KPU," Ivan added.

The proceeds that are allegedly used to fund elections consist of various criminal acts, one of which is illegal mining, with a transaction value of trillions of rupiah.

Ivan said his party would continue to monitor transactions related to elections.

"In principle, we want the contestation to be carried out through vision and mission complaints, not illegal forces, especially those sourced from illegal sources," said Ivan.

Meanwhile, based on 2022 data, from 2016 to 2021, PPATK has made 297 analytic results involving 1,315 entities suspected of committing criminal acts with a value of Rp38 trillion.

PPATK also made 11 examination results involving 24 entities with a potential value of transactions related to criminal acts reaching Rp221 trillion.
