Toyota GR Corolla Can Be Launched In Indonesia In 2024 Despite High Global Demand
JAKARTA - The country's hot hatch market will heat up. After Honda launched Civic Type R in Indonesia in this segment, Toyota as rival brought the Glolla GR line at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) last August.
This car was brought to Indonesia in order to continue the success of GR Yaris whose units are no longer produced. Unlike his brother, GR Corolla will be produced in a sustainable but in a limited number. Several months since it was listed in the country, how is the latest news from this high-performance Toyota car?
Anton Jimmi Suwandi, as Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), said that the model will certainly only fill the Indonesian market next year, but he has not been able to confirm the time because the number of demand globally is high.
"We will launch it next year and again waiting for the confirmation of the supply. Globally, the demand for this car is very high. It is still uncertain whether in the second or third quarters, we are also still waiting for confirmation from its production," Anton told VOI in Jakarta.
Anton also explained that he believes that GR Corolla's enthusiasts in Indonesia are quite high and several customers have asked about the unit. However, until now it will not open an official order.
"We have received many questions from a number of customers regarding the unit, but we have not been able to receive an official order, so it is still verbal," concluded Anton.

Toyota GR Corolla is a high-performance hot hatch developed by the Gazoo Racing (GR) division based on the Corolla E210. The car was introduced globally in 2022 and was originally produced to meet demand from North America that did not get the GR Yaris unit.
However, this sporty hatchback turns out to be in great demand in various countries, including Japan itself, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia. In fact, the Thai market is only available in a limited number of nine units.
This high-performance car is powered by a 3-cylinder gasoline engine with a 1.6 liter track with the same turbocharged G16E-GTS as the one used in GR Yaris. With this engine, GR Corolla is capable of generating up to 300 dk of power and 360 Nm of torque.
As an illustration of the price, the Toyota GR Corolla is priced at starting at 5.2 million yen or around IDR 547.2 million for the Japanese market.
