Anies After The Debate Of Presidential Candidates Reaffirms Ethics, Democracy And Legal Countries
JAKARTA - Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan after the presidential candidate debate again touched on ethics in state management. Anies emphasized that there is no compromise on irregularities that can have a big impact on society.
"Yes, Alhamdulillah, the first debate went well. So the opportunity for the public to hear the principles, ideologies, the way of thinking expressed by the candidates. Of course there was an exchange of thoughts, views, I need to convey that this country needs to be maintained and uphold ethics. So, the more irregular it is, the more damage there is, from the peak of ethical compromise," said Anies, Tuesday, December 12.
Anies underlined the issue of freedom of opinion in a democratic country. The public must clearly see the ideas of the presidential candidates through a new debate.
"Earlier, the discussion was exciting, and the basic principles I think the public can see. Earlier I told young friends to compare, which one is really serious about returning this country to law and maintaining freedom of opinion, and which one is serious about maintaining ethics," he said.
Regarding the question and answer with Prabowo regarding the opposition, Anies emphasized that the position was equally honorable with the position of the coalition in the government.
"We say that the opposition is equally honorable. There are only those who can't stand being an opposition, and I say that is what contributes to our democracy," he said.
In the debate, Anies Baswedan replied back to Prabowo Subianto's 'attack' on democracy. Prabowo said that without democracy running in the era of President Jokowi, it was impossible for Anies to become governor of DKI in 2017.
"Mas Anies Mas Anies, I think Anies is a bit exaggerated. Mas Anies complained about democracy, Mr. Anies was chosen to be the governor of DKI against the ruling government, I will follow you. If democracy does not work, it is impossible for you to be governor," Prabowo said in a presidential debate, Tuesday, December 12.
Responding to that, Anies answered diplomatically. At length Anies said
the process of democracy in a country must have a government and opposition.
"Both are equally honorable and when the decision-making process is carried out. If there is an opposition, there is always a different perspective that allows the public to judge that the opposition is important and equally honorable," Anies said in a debate at the KPU Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 12.
However, Anies added, not everyone is holding back from becoming an opposition, including Prabowo Subianto.
"Unfortunately not everyone is holding back from becoming an opposition as stated by Pak Prabowo. Pak Prabowo can't stand to be an opposition, what happened? He himself said that not being in power makes you unable to do business, you can't do business because it must be in power. More power than the matter of the power business is more than about money, (the power of) honor to carry out the sovereignty of the people," Anies said at the question and answer session of the presidential candidate debate.
