Capital Market Investors Are Still Dominated By Men

JAKARTA - Director of Finance and Human Resources of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Risa Effennita Rustam, said that investment activities in the capital market are still dominated by men. The composition, from 2,484,354 investors in the capital market, women investors in the capital market are still 40:60 compared to men.

"From the comparison, the total assets are even smaller, namely 21 percent women and 79 percent men of total assets in retail investors in the capital market, which currently total Rp430 trillion," said Risa in Jakarta, Thursday, March 5.

Today, 39 Indonesian princesses representing 34 provinces are participating in financial literacy activities on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The agenda is a series of activities for the 2020 Indonesian Princess Election, one of which is providing financial literacy, especially in the capital market industry.

The Indonesian Princess Foundation (YPI), which was founded by Mooryati Soedibyo as the organizer of the 2020 Indonesian Princess Election in collaboration with PT Mustika Ratu Tbk, said this financial literacy activity aims to make finalists share their knowledge with the community in their respective regions and hope that they can help to generate even more enthusiasm and optimism of the entire public towards the Indonesian Capital Market.

Together with the Indonesian Mutual Funds and Investment Players Association Board (APRDI Council), this briefing is filled with materials ranging from the choice of capital market investment products, investment opportunities and challenges, to knowledge of risks and the authorized supervisory agency for investment activities.

Risa said, through financial literacy for the Princess of Indonesia 2020, IDX would like to send a message to the Indonesian people to start equipping themselves with education about financial management for a more secure future, especially women.

"This is because women play an important role in managing family finances, which of course requires a good understanding of investment," said Risa.

Furthermore, said Risa, her party also wants the public to understand that every investment option contains risks. Therefore the public must know trusted institutions in order to avoid illegal investments that offer irrational high returns.

The activity, which is also fully supported by the IDX, begins with the opening ceremony of the IDX trade at 09.00 WIB before moving on to the workshop session. As for the debriefing session for finalists, IDX emphasized the importance of cultivating financial intelligence and recognizing the options and risks of capital market products.

Based on the 2019 Narrative TV survey data, many people have allegedly had difficulty saving because 31 percent of their money is used for shopping, 24.3 percent for installments, 18.5 percent for hangouts, 4.7 percent for traveling, and 10.6 percent for hobby.

Therefore, raising awareness in financial management through investment needs to be continuously improved in various approaches. Risa added, in Indonesia, capital market investment is an investment instrument that is safe and protected by regulators such as the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO). OJK regional offices and IDX representatives have also been scattered in every region.

"Through financial literacy activities for the Princess of Indonesia 2020, it is hoped that the 39 finalists of Puteri Indonesia can become the IDX's extension to increase public understanding of the correct investment in their respective regions so that people are not trapped in illegal investment," concluded Risa.
