Rejecting The Coup, Myanmar Hackers Hacked Sites Owned By The Myanmar Military To The Central Bank

JAKARTA - The rejection of the Myanmar military coup is increasingly widespread and has received support from various parties in Myanmar. Most recently, support was carried out by a group calling itself Myanmar Hackers.

On Wednesday local time, several websites of government agencies, including those belonging to the Central Bank of Myanmar and the Myanmar Military's Tatmadaw True News Information Team, were hacked and could not be accessed.

The culprit, Myanmar Hackers. They claim responsibility for this cyber attack, as support for the Myanmar people's resistance to a military coup.

"Our goal is to overthrow the military regime. We will fight online to destroy the core departments and businesses that sustain the regime, "wrote Myanmar Hackers on Facebook, launching The Irrawaddy.

The group shared a blog link that could reportedly be used to carry out cyber attacks.

"Hack with your own hands and join the attack," wrote the group.

The group also targets the Directorate of Investment and Corporate Administration, the Ministry of Commerce, the Customs Department, the Ministry of Commerce and military-run media such as the Tatmadaw and Myawady TV's True News Information Team and state-owned broadcaster Myanma Radio and Television as well as several private media.

A computer technician in Yangon said the hack was a denial of service attack.

"They disrupt normal traffic from the targeted servers by inundating the target with inundation of internet traffic so websites slow down or crash," he said.

VOI tried to access the site belonging to the Central Bank of Myanmar on Thursday morning, finding that the site was still inaccessible, accompanied by a notification that it was still offline.
