Haaland's Brace And Dahoud's Sebiji Goal Bring Dortmund To Defeat Sevilla
JAKARTA - Two goals scored by Erling Haaland led Borussia Dortmund to beat Sevilla 3-2 in the first leg of the Champions League which took place at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, Sevilla, Wednesday local time (Thursday WIB).
Haaland's dual goal was to complete Mahmoud Dahoud's score. Meanwhile, Suso and Luuk de Jong scored the host's reply, according to the official UEFA note.
As well as leading his team to set foot in the quarter-finals, Haaland is also now the top scorer with a score of eight goals, as well as ending Sevilla's zero-scoring record in seven consecutive matches in all competitions.
This duel among the dark horse team presents an open game from the start of the fight. Sevilla, who are in a positive trend, are able to control ball possession, on the other hand Dortmund apply high pressing and rely a lot on fast counter attacks.
The host can steal a quick goal when the game has been running for seven minutes. Suso's shot from outside the penalty box hit Mats Hummels' leg and the ball changed direction so that it entered Marwin Hitz's goal.
Dortmund are under a lot of pressure, just waiting until there is a chance to make a quick counter attack. The strategy was effective when Mahmoud Dahoud made the score back to a draw in the 19th minute. His hard kick from outside the penalty box could not be reached by Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bono.
Only eight minutes later, The Borrusian turned 2-1 ahead through Haaland's action again through a fast counter-attack scheme. Cooperation of one or two Sancho-Haaland, was completed by cheating by the player from Norway.
Two minutes before the end of the first half, Haaland scored his second goal after finishing Marco Reus' bait.
On the other hand, although Sevilla had a lot of possession of the ball, they found it difficult to create open opportunities. Every attack that is launched is often blocked by Dortmund's defense.
It was felt that the front line was deadlocked, Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui tried to respond by replacing three players at once, Munir El Hadadi, Luuk de Jong, and Oliver Torres were added to increase their breaking power.
After the substitution, Sevilla almost reduced the position if Sergio Escurdero did not hit Hummels' leg, the ball only ended as a corner. Likewise with Oscar Rodriguez's free kick which only hit the crossbar.
The new host's hard work paid off in the 84th minute. Starting from a free kick situation, Rodriguez sent feedback to the far post which Luuk de Jong then cheated to change the position to 2-3.
In the remaining time available, Sevilla continued to lock up the Dortmund defense and force the opponents to survive completely. However, until the score was 3-2, Dortmund's victory remained.
With this defeat, it was difficult for Sevilla to advance to the next round, especially as they will act as a guest team in the second leg. At least it requires a minimum of two goals without conceding in order to continue the adventure in the Champions League.
