All Hospitals in North Gaza No Longer Function
JAKARTA - All hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip are currently no longer functioning, although there are efforts to re-operate health facilities destroyed by Israeli attacks in the area.
Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said medical teams faced difficulties while trying to work at Al-Shifa Hospital which is the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip, located in the western part of Gaza City.
"Despite the difficulties, we will continue to try to run any hospital in the Gaza Strip," said Al-Qudra in a statement reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, December 7.
He noted Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis was overcrowded with around 1,000 injured people, with patients and injured people lying on the hospital floor.
Citing a ministry official, the Gaza-based state media office also reported that Al-Shifa Hospital, which was filled with refugees, no longer had electricity.
According to Gaza authorities and international health organizations, aid and medical supplies are entering Gaza in very limited quantities, while fuel shortages remain a major obstacle in running hospitals.
Israel resumed its military offensive in the Gaza Strip on December 1, after the end of a week-long humanitarian pause agreed with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
At least 16,248 Palestinians were killed and more than 43,616 people were injured as a result of Israel's attacks on Gaza, which were launched in response to Hamas' cross-border attacks on October 7, 2023.
Israel's death toll in Hamas attacks reached 1,200, according to official government figures.
