Chauvin is one of four former Minneapolis police officers convicted of Floyd's murder in May 2020 in Minnesota State. Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly 10 minutes until the victim died.
Chauvin's attorney, Greg Erickson, told WCCO television station that Chauvin's family was deeply disappointed by the attack incident.
Erickson also said it would not be surprising if someone would target Chauvin because he was convicted in a case that got a lot of attention.
Officials have not been able to confirm whether Chauvin will be transferred to another federal prison after the stabbing.
