Minister Of PUPR Instructs An Increase In Semarang City Flood Control
JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono instructed that the operation of flood control infrastructure in Semarang City, Central Java, be increased.
"Currently we are repairing several pumps at the Kali Sringin and Tenggang Pump Houses. It is targeted to be completed entirely on December 5, 2023. Meanwhile, 11 portable (mobile) pump units are also used," Basuki said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.
Of the 11 exportable pumps, four units were placed in Tenggang River, two units in Sringin River, three units in Terboyo River and the rest scattered at several points.
The repair of pumps in Sringin and Tenggang River is indeed part of operation and maintenance, because the pump has been operating for quite a long time from 2018.
In addition to repairing pumps and deploying portable pumps, Minister Basuki said the Ministry of PUPR had also prepared a long-term flood control plan in Semarang City by optimizing the Waru Pump House, Kandang Kebo, Retention Pool Sera and Muktiharjo Pump House.
"We have more to divert the load/debth to the KBT (East Flood Canal) to reduce the burden on the Kali Tenggang Pump House. There is the Muktiharjo Pump, then it goes to the Waru Pump. From Waru we add pumps to enter the KBT," said Basuki.

With this system, according to Minister Basuki, the burden of the Kali Tenggang Pump House and the Sringin River will not be too heavy.
"Currently, the detailed engineering design (DED) already exists. Hopefully in 2024, we can start working on it," said Minister Basuki.
Flood management in Semarang City is carried out using a polder and pump system, which includes areas of West Semarang, Central Semarang, and East Semarang consisting of Tenggang and Sringin Pump Houses.
The system of polders and pumps is designed to deal with tidal flooding that occurred in the cities of Pantura Jawa, such as Semarang, Pekalongan, Tegal to Jakarta.
