BPBD Semarang Records IDR 800 Million Losses Due To Flash Floods After The Merbabu Forest And Land Fires

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Semarang Regency, Central Java, recorded a loss of Rp800 million due to flash floods after the forest and land fires of Mount Merbabu.

Head of BPBD Semarang Regency Alexander Gunawan explained the figures raised temporarily by the team in the field based on direct observations and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

"The results of our assessment of the impact of the flood, both the damage to the pralon pipe and the eroded road foundation, the total loss reached eight hundred million rupiah," Alexander explained as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 1.

Based on a report from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Semarang Regency, there were no casualties in the incident.

However, the flood carrying mud, large rocks and pieces of stems and tree branches caused material losses in the form of one resident's motorbike washed away, the water channel in four hamlets of Tabuk Village was damaged, and three connecting roads between villages were cut off.

"We have cleaned two road access with the excavator assisted by BBWS Pemali Juana, Central Java. The road connecting the Ngaduman hamlet to Gedong is very severe, we are working with the Jeep 4x4 community to pull the rock that is blocking the road," said Alexander.

Alexander said the joint team was still trying to clean the location and repair road access assisted by cross-stakeholders and local residents.

Flash floods hit two villages on the slopes of Mount Merbabu, Friday (12/11). The incident occurred after heavy rain flushed the peak area of Mount Merbabu for a long time. The affected areas include Tajuk Village and Batur Village, Getasan District, Semarang Regency.
