Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts 9 Times Until Tonight

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded a nine-time eruption from the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau in South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.

The height of the eruption varies from 600 to 2,000 meters, starting from 00.00 WIB to 18.40 WIB, Tuesday, November 28.

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, South Lampung, Andi Suardi, said the eruption was still happening early this morning until tonight.

PVMBG noted that the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Tuesday (28/11/2023) at 00.00 WIB with a ash column height observed at approximately 2,000 mm above the peak, and from sea level approximately 2,157 m the ash column was observed to be black with thick intensity leaning towards the northwest. Between, there was another eruption at 06.29 WIB, 09.06 WIB, and 09.14 WIB with ash pond heights varying from 800 meters 1,000, to 1,500 meters.

Furthermore, the eruption returned at 10:51 WIB, with a volcanic ash height of 1,500 meters from the top of the Mount Anak Krakatau.

Eruption again at 11.38 WIB, ash height 800 meters, then 13.21 WIB, ash height eruption 1,000 meters, and 16.06 WIB of ash ejection height 600 meters.

Mount Anak Krakatau at 18.40 WIB experienced another eruption, but the height of the ash column was not observed, approximately 600 m high.

The closest settlement of Mount Anak Krakatau is on Sebesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers away.

Andi appealed to the public and fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area at a radius of five kilometers.

"Currently Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III, on standby, with the recommendations of the community, fishermen, mountain climbers, not approaching the mountain with a radius of five kilometers," he said.

Mount Anak Krakatau has been disrupted 25 times from November 26 morning to November 28, 2023 night.*
