JIS Roof Polemic That Is Not Closed When It Rains And Makes Floods, It Turns Out That There Are Regulations
JAKARTA - The roof of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) was in the spotlight during the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The roof was not covered when it rained and made the flood field a hot polemic.
The quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 World Cup on Friday, November 24, 2023, presented a hot match between Argentina U-17 vs Brazil U-17. However, the prestigious match had stalled for half an hour.
The situation in the field then flooded at several points made the organizers busy cleaning the puddles.
At the same time, there was also a big question why JIS allowed the roof of the stadium to open when heavy rains occurred.
In fact, it is common knowledge that JIS has other prestige because it is the only stadium in Indonesia that has an open-close roof.

Regarding the many questions why the JIS roof was not closed when it rained, it turned out to be included in the record of quite complex regulations.
We can refer to the systematic stadium regulations made by UEFA as a temporary reference.
From the data taken on the official UEFA website, it turns out that there are regulations that regulate the opening and closing of the stadium roof. This is explained in Article 34.
In detail, before the match starts, the match delegation will consult with the referee about the roof of the stadium.
The consultation was to discuss whether the roof of the stadium should be opened or closed and the decision was made during the meeting before the match started.
Tentunya keputusan bisa berubah ketika cuaca berubah, tapi itu juga perlu konsultasi dengan wasit yang memimpin pertandingan tersebut.
Before the match, the match delegation consulted with the referee, deciding whether the stadium roof would be opened or closed during the match.
"This decision must be announced in a meeting before the match even though the decision can be changed at any time, including before the kick-off when the weather changes. Once again, it must be consulted with the referee," UEFA said in a statement.
"If the match starts with a closed roof then the match must be closed until the half or until the game is over."
"If the match starts with an open roof, only the referee has the authority to order the closure of the roof during the match, of course, by complying with the applicable law in the country," the UEFA statement added.
Such a decision (a sudden roof closure) can be taken if the weather worsens. If the referee orders the roof to close before the match, the roof must be closed until the end of the match," continued UEFA.
So, it can be concluded that the referee fully holds the JIS roof decision to be opened or closed in the Argentine U-17 vs Brazil U-17 match.
When the match was held, it was seen that the roof of JIS was already open even before the match was held.
If referring to regulations as written by UEFA, to cover the roof of the match JIS must be completed until the first round first. It can also be done if the referee chooses to cover the roof of JIS.
If the referee then decides to cover the JIS roof, it will also take a long time.
You see, to be able to cover it perfectly, the JIS roof takes about 30 minutes considering the weight of the material used weighing 3,900 tons.
