Minister Of Cooperatives Teten Masduki Asks Ganjar Pranowo To Increase Export Contribution Of Central Java MSMEs

JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki appreciates Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who continue to innovate and work in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teten also encourages MSMEs from Central Java to contribute to the export market.

"Indeed I think Central Java has many superior UMKM products. So I think our export potential must continue to be developed, Mr. Governor, because the President asked for the contribution of MSMEs to export to be added. Currently, it is only 14 percent," he said, at the "Virtual UKM Expo Central Java" event. , Tuesday, February 16th.

According to Teten, this virtual UKM expo in the midst of COVID-19 is very appropriate to encourage an increase in sales or turnover of MSMEs. Where now is the era of the digital market.

"Hopefully this virtual expo will be much more successful than last year's virtual expo. I have already received a turnover of Rp4.43 billion," he said.

Not only that, last year's virtual UKM expo also succeeded in penetrating the export market. The countries that access are from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Qatar, the Netherlands, Iraq, Autralia, Turkey and India.

"This is extraordinary. If we look at Central Java, the trade balance in October 2020 experienced a surplus of 17.44 million US dollars. I think this is mostly triggered by a surplus in the non-oil and gas sector, yes. Especially from an increase in MSMEs and I think this is extraordinary, so appreciation once again for Central Java, "he explained.

In order to penetrate the export market, according to Teten, business actors must focus on products with a large enough market demand. During this pandemic, people's purchasing power is quite disrupted because many have lost their jobs or their income has decreased. Therefore, community consumption prioritizes basic needs, food and beverage, health maintenance and education.

Not only that, Teten said, continuous assistance to encourage MSME players to adapt to new markets, including the digital market, is important.

"To increase exports in the export market, the capacity of MSMEs is what we need to build together between ministries, central and local governments, especially preparing MSMEs that have a superior commodity production base. So that it is easier to enter the global value chain, including increasing MSMEs to a digital ecosystem. "he explained.
