Member Of Commission III DPR: The National Police Don't Get Trapped In The Rubber Article In The ITE Law

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament Andi Rio Idris Padjalangi asked the National Police to be selective in accepting public reports regarding alleged violations of the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions, so as not to get trapped in the rubber articles and multiple interpretations in the ITE Law.

"The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, can immediately provide direction and study to his members to implement President Jokowi's directives on the ITE Law issues," said Andi Rio in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 16.

He considered that so far many people have reported each other because of different views on the use of social media.

This, according to him, is a big job for the Police to be able to respond wisely to people who want to make reports on Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE).

"The National Police must sort out the reports that have to be accommodated, so that there should be no reports that do not have a criminal element, then they are forced to become a criminal. This should not be done of course," he said.

The Golkar Party politician hopes that the public can be wiser in using social media, so that the freedom of opinion will not go too far.

According to him, the public may have an opinion but must still prioritize ethics and courtesy and constructive criticism.
