Alonso Leaves Hospital After Undergoing Jaw Fracture Surgery

JAKARTA - Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso left hospital in Switzerland four days after an accident while cycling. Alpine Team announced last Monday.

Spanish television reports Cuatro showed Alonso leaving hospital in Berne, where he underwent surgery on his fractured upper jaw in an accident near his home in Lugano.

The two-time Formula 1 world champion will return to race in F1 this year with the Alpine team, the incarnation of Renault F1, after two years of absence from F1.

"After a period of 48 hours of surveillance in the hospital ... Fernando Alonso is now allowed to go home to continue his recovery at home," said an official statement from the Alpine team.

"He will have a period of complete rest before progressively continuing training to prepare for the start of the new season."

The 2021 Formula 1 season will kick off in Bahrain on March 28.
