PUPR Agency Project Bribery Case, KPK Determines Muara Enim Regent As A Suspect

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Muara Enim Juarsah Regent as a suspect in a suspected bribery case related to a project at the Muara Enim PUPR Service in 2019.

He was named a suspect in his capacity as Deputy Regent of Muara Enim for the 2018-2020 period.

Determination of this suspect was carried out from the development of the case that ensnared former Muara Regent Enim Ahmad Yani; Aries HB as Chairman of the Muara Enim DPRD; Ramlan Suryadi as Plt Kadis PUPR; Elfin MZ Muhtar as Head of Road Development and PPK at the PUPR Service of Muara Enim Regency; as well as the private party, Robi Okta Fahlefi. The five people have been convicted and have permanent legal force.

"After finding sufficient preliminary evidence to proceed with the title of the case, the KPK concluded that there were allegations of Corruption Crime receiving gifts or promises related to projects at the PUPR Service of Muara Enim Regency for the 2019 Fiscal Year. Along with investigations since January 20, 2021, the KPK then determine a suspect, namely JRH (Juarsah), "said Deputy for Enforcement of the Corruption Eradication Commission Karyoto in a press conference broadcast on YouTube by the KPK RI, Monday, February 15.

In this case, Juarsah allegedly agreed and received a number of fees or commitment fees with a value of 5 percent of the total value of road construction projects in Muara Enim Regency for the 2019 fiscal year, one of which came from Robi Okta Fahlefi.

"JRH received a commitment fee of around Rp. 4 billion carried out in stages through the mediation of AEM (Elfin MZ Muhtar)," he said.

For his actions, Juarsah was then suspected of violating Article 12 letter a or Article 11 or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

Furthermore, Juarsah will be detained at the KPK Detention Center for the first 20 days until March 6. However, he will undergo independent isolation for 14 days as an effort to prevent the spread of the corona virus or COVID-19.

"For the purpose of investigation, the suspect was detained for the first time for 20 days starting from February 15, 2021 to March 6, 2021 at the Class I East Jakarta State Detention Center, KPK Branch, Lot C1," he concluded.
