Khofifah Review Nganjuk Landslide, Regent Promises To Find Victims For 14 Days

SURABAYA - The Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked the Nganjuk Regency Government to provide education to its citizens to increase awareness. The goal is to anticipate further landslides.

"The Nganjuk Regency Government must educate its residents a lot, and increase their vigilance if at any time there is a high enough rain intensity", said Khofifah, while visiting the disaster location in Selopuro Village, Ngetos District, Nganjuk Regency, Monday, February 15.

Khofifah hopes that areas around the slab with potential vulnerability to landslides need to be watched out for. Given that this landslide land belongs to Perhutani, the Nganjuk Regent can coordinate to prepare a safe relocation of nearby land.

Not only that, any soil cracks that have the potential for landslides must be given a sign or warning. This includes inviting residents to take self-evacuation steps.

"We cannot predict that it turns out that high-intensity rain continues to flush this area and eventually landslides occur. We all convey deep condolences to the families of the victims who died from this landslide disaster. We pray that the residents who have died all their deeds will be accepted by Allah SWT and all their mistakes. forgiven", she said.

Khofifah ensured that the search for landslide victims would continue until all the buried victims were found. To speed up the search, her party asked the police to deploy sniffer dogs.

"I have coordinated with the Police Chief and apparently a bloodhound has been prepared to speed up the identification process", she said.

According to Khofifah, the location of the disaster in Nganjuk was quite steep. Cliff conditions require increased caution and vigilance.

"Mainly heavy equipment and roads or other access are also prepared so that they can reach a certain point to reach the estimated point of victims", she said.

Nganjuk Regent Novi Rahman said that until now the evacuation process was continuing. Based on the update of the Field Post, 21 residents became victims.

He promised that the evacuation process of victims would continue for the next 14 days. Then clean up the debris and prepare relocation for people affected by landslides.

"Until now, 14 landslide victims have been found. Two people were found safe, while 12 of them were declared dead", he said.
