Super Speeding Internet, Starlink, Has Opened Pre-Order, Interested?
Recently, Elon Musk's company Starlink has opened a pre-order period to reach potential customers. Those interested in ordering a satellite-based internet network can go to the official Starlink page at this link. Users only need to enter their home address and email only.
Prospective Starlink internet users must pay a deposit of US $ 99 (equivalent to Rp. 1.3 million). This deposit is fully refundable. Prospective users must also buy other devices, such as the Starlink Kit which is a satellite dish and WiFi router, as well as a power supply. All of them totaled to a total of 499 US dollars (equivalent to Rp. 6.9 million) as reported by The Verge.
SpaceX collaborates with the government in the US. Not only in the US, SpaceX has also received permits from several other countries for its Starlink internet network such as the UK and Canada. In the future, Starlink will reach more countries in the world.
However, it is not yet known when Indonesia will be able to provide Elon Musk's high speed internet service. It is possible that regions in Indonesia will be able to get this internet network in 2022.
This pre-order mechanism is almost the same as the Tesla electric car ordering system, which both pay a deposit in advance. To realize a high-speed internet network, SpaceX launched a thousand satellites into low Earth orbit.
Internet service company Starlink will serve as the business line of rocket company SpaceX. The income from Starlink will be used to launch rockets to Mars.
After the pre-order period was informed to the public, Elon Musk immediately posted a tweet that Starlink would conduct an IPO.
"When we can predict financial flows fairly well, Starlink will go into an IPO," Musk said in a Twitter tweet.
The President of SpaceX, Gwyne Shotwell has also said the same thing in 2020 in front of investors.
"Right now, we are a private company, but Starlink is the right kind of business that we can continue to become a public company," said Shotwell.
Musk also wants Starlink not to go bankrupt and have a better fate than the existing internet service. On the other hand, this kind of service is apparently not only provided by SpaceX through its Starlink.
Apparently, Amazon also has the same project called Kuiper. Jeff Bezos' company plans to launch 3,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. Musk and Bezos will compete in super-speeding internet service projects in the world.
