32 Confucian Prisoners Receive Special Remission On Chinese New Year
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has given special remissions for the 2021 Chinese New Year to 32 Confucian convicts.
Remission is a reduction in serving a criminal period given to prisoners and children who meet the requirements stipulated in the statutory regulations.
Prisoners who receive remissions are those who have fulfilled the administrative and substantive requirements in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations, such as having the status of prisoners for at least 6 months imprisonment, have not committed violations while serving their crimes, and actively participate in coaching programs and activities in prisons or remand centers
The Director General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Reynhard Silitonga, said that the provision of special remissions (RK) was a form of appreciation given by the state to prisoners who had tried and demonstrated better behavior change.
"It is not just a reduction in the sentence, but it is hoped that it can increase the faith and motivation of prisoners to become better human beings," Reynhard said in his statement, Friday, February 12.
Reynhard said, remission proposals came from various regions in Indonesia by optimizing the use of information technology.
Of the 32 prisoners who received the Chinese New Year RK, all received a partial reduction RK, with details of 8 receiving a reduced sentence of 15 days, 14 receiving a reduced sentence of 1 month, 8 receiving a reduced sentence of 1 month and 15 days, and 2 receiving a reduced sentence of 2 months.
Meanwhile, the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Office (Kanwil) of Kemenkumham contributed the highest number of Chinese New Year RK recipients, namely 12 convicts.
Followed by the Banten Kanwil Kemenkumham as many as 4 prisoners, and the West Kalimantan Kemenkumham Regional Office as many as 3 prisoners.
The rest came from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Bali, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Kalimantan and West Sulawesi, totaling 2 people. As for the Regional Offices of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jambi, East Java, and the Riau Islands, 1 person each.
Reynhard emphasized that his party continues to strive to accommodate all prisoners' rights, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which is currently still endemic and has a wide impact on all aspects of people's lives.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is still a performance challenge in 2021. Therefore, the implementation of correctional duties and functions must adapt to the adaptation of new habits and implement the 5M health protocol, namely wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, staying away from crowds, and reducing mobility. , "He said.
Until February 5, 2021, the number of prisoners assisted by correctional facilities (WBP) in Indonesia is 253,314 people, consisting of 204,805 prisoners and 48,509 prisoners.
