Amazingly Yogyakarta, The Area Of Slum Areas In 2021 Is Only 114.72 Hectares, Kraton And Pakualaman Districts Are Recorded As Sterile Slums

JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government has made various efforts to handle and organize slum areas in recent years. Remarkably, in 2021 the slum area will only remain 114.72 hectares.

The remaining slum areas were then stipulated in the Decree of the Mayor of Yogyakarta Number 158 of 2021 as well as revoking the old decree stipulated in 2016 with a total slum area of 264.87 hectares.

Head of the Housing and Settlement Division of the Yogyakarta City Public Works Housing and Settlement Area Office, Sigit Setiawan, said the rest of the slum areas were also in the light category.

"The remaining slum area stipulated in the new decree comes from the remaining slum areas as a result of handling since 2016 and there are several additional locations that are reviewed in 2020," said Sigit in Yogyakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 12.

Based on data from DPUPKP Yogyakarta City, from the results of the arrangement of slum areas since 2016 there is still an area of 75.32 hectares and an additional slum area from the results of tracing and monitoring in the field covering an area of 37.32 hectares.

So that the area of the slum area that still needs to be handled reaches 114.72 hectares.

"The additional slum areas come from areas that were not previously categorized as slums. However, due to changes in regulations regarding the determination of slum areas, these areas are now classified as slum areas," he said.

Of the 14 sub-districts in Yogyakarta City, two sub-districts do not have slum areas, namely Kraton District and Pakualaman District.

In 2016, there was only one sub-district that did not have a slum area, namely Kraton District. According to Sigit, most of the slum areas included in the decision of the Yogyakarta Mayor's Decree this year are located on riverbanks, but some are far from the banks.

"Usually, slum areas in the city of Yogyakarta are more due to the inadequate sanitation aspect. There are still many settlements that combine rainwater or drainage with sewage channels," he said.

The treatment that will be carried out is to build a separate channel for drainage in the waste. "If the settlement is on the riverbank, then a communal IPAL can be made because it is impossible to connect it to the Sewon IPAL due to elevation differences," he said.

If the settlement is in a densely populated area, there will be several options that can be made, including building house connections, renovating settlements to options for relocation.

"On average, the slum areas in the city of Yogyakarta currently occupy the Sultan Ground land and are in the process of obtaining a fishing ground," he said.

This year, slum management will be carried out using APBN funds amounting to Rp. 18 billion in several locations, especially to improve the quality of settlements along the Code River. A number of target locations include Gowongan, Terban, and Wirogunan Sub-District.

Meanwhile, from the Yogyakarta City APBD, a budget will be allocated for handling in three urban villages in four work packages, namely in the Kelurahan Warungboto, Gunungketur, and Klitren.
