Nothing, This New Company, The Former Boss Of OnePlus, Makes Wireless Earphones

JAKARTA - Carl Pei is the founder of OnePlus who chose to leave the company he founded in 2013. Carl Pei left and decided to start a brand-new company, Nothing.

Nothing appeared on Twitter at the end of January under the account name @Nothing. At that time Nothing had a product to be launched. Not long ago, Carl Pei announced his first Nothing product, a wireless earphone. This device is scheduled to be released for the global market this summer.

“We will start with a simpler product, namely wireless earbuds. We will have many products throughout the year, not only audio products, ”said Pei as quoted by Slashgear.

Even though it's just about to launch a new product, in the future Nothing will make smart devices that can connect to each other. It seems that Pei doesn't want to sell earbuds as his first product with Nothing. It is estimated that the earbuds have functions that have capabilities like Google products, Pixel Buds.

For information, the Pixel Buds device can function to call the Google Assistant so that users can control various smart devices at home. Some examples of the capabilities of these devices are being able to set up the music player, answer questions, and navigate.

A number of other vendors are doing the same thing, Apple's AirPods come with Siri, Amazon also presents a smart speaker called Echo combined with a digital assistant named Alexa.

Pei also revealed that one of the investors poured out funds amounting to US $ 15 million or the equivalent of Rp.209.5 billion. The investor is a venture capital company under Google's parent company GV.

Previously, the company made by Pei also received funding from various other investors such as founder of Kevin Lin (founder of Twitch), Steve Huffman (boss of Reddit), Josh Buckley (CEO of Product Hunt) and from Casey Neistat, a YouTuber.

However, until now Carl Pei has not disclosed in more detail the agreement made with Alphabet, he also refused to mention the startup valuation he founded.
