Jurgen Klopp's Mother Passed Away In Germany, The Coach Could Not Attend The Funeral Due To The COVID-19 Pandemic

JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's heart is broken. His mother died in Germany at the age of 81. However, the coach had to miss the funeral of the mother due to travel restrictions in Germany due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to German newspaper Schwarzwalder Bote, Klopp paid tribute to his mother Elisabeth who died on January 19.

"She means everything to me. She is a real mother in the best sense in the world. As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now," the 53-year-old said as reported by the Daily Mail, Wednesday, February 10.

Klopp last visited Elisabeth in Germany when her mother turned 80. He said that as soon as circumstances allowed, his family would gather to hold a beautiful memorial.

Klopp, who was born in 1967, is the youngest of three children who came from the marriage of Elisabeth Reich and Norbert Klopp in 1960. Stefanie was born in 1960 and Isolde in 1962.

Norbert died in 2000 after becoming ill at the age of 66, just months before Jurgen landed his first coaching job with Mainz.

Elisabeth was the second eldest of four children born to Eugen and Helene Reich, who owned a brewery in the city of Glatten. Her working life started with delivering crates to bars with her oldest sister, Marianne and also running the family grocery store.

She married Norbert Klopp, who was studying the craft of making leather bags, after meeting up at a dance party. Norbert is also a goalkeeper and underwent trials with leading German club Kaiserslautern.

You'll never walk alone, Jurgen ....
