KPAI Asks Kominfo To Block Child Marriage Services Sites Similar To Aisha Weddings
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) asked the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) to block (take down) other sites that provide child marriage services such as Aisha Weddings.
"We ask Kominfo to take down similar sites that promote child marriage," said Deputy Chairman of KPAI Rita Pranawati when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, February 10.
Aisha Weddings became a mass conversation on Twitter. The wedding organizer (WO) was criticized for offering child marriage packages.
In an advertisement on the official website, Aisha Weddings offers wedding packages for brides in the age range 12-21 years. "All Muslim women want to be devout and obedient to Allah SWT and her husband. To be pleasing to Allah and your husband, you must be married at the age of 12-21 years and not more," reads the Aisha Weddings ad.
This is what led the KPAI to report the existence of this site to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police for legal proceedings. KPAI initially received reports of the emergence of the Aisha Weddings website from the public.
"That's why we report to Bareskrim Polri to deepen allegations of violations of children's rights. But this is still a suspicion, because there must be evidence. We are reporting, then the Headquarters responds, it is still in the process of investigation. If there is, Bareskrim will notify the developments later," he explained. .
Rita suspects that the Aisha Weddings site violates Law Number 16 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Law 1 Number 1974 concerning Marriage.
"Situ Aisha Wedding which offers child marriage is clearly the Marriage Law which provides a minimum limit of marriages over 19 years," said Rita.
According to Rita, Aisha Weddings also violated Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO).
Because, said Rita, the act of the wedding organizer to marry off minors was a violation of children's rights.
"On the site there are pictures of children, then there is a statement of the child's marriage aged 12 to 21. That clearly violates children's rights," said Rita.
