IDX Calls 10 Companies Entering Carbon Exchange Pipeline

JAKARTA - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) said that currently there are 10 companies in the pipeline of carbon exchanges. Consisting of one selling company and nine buyer companies.

Head of IDX's Business Development Division, Ignatius Denny Wicaksono, said that the company that acts as a seller is PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara alias PLN and has recorded a transaction volume of 1.7 million tons of CO2.

"Everything in the pipeline is a buyer, except for one seller, PLN," said Denny in the Plataran City Forest Jakarta on Tuesday (24/10/2023). at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023, Tuesday, October 24.

Denny said that in increasing carbon trading, his party had prepared a number of strategic steps such as creating a carbon exchange Raod map and expanding the carbon trading sector.

Denny added that the IDX is also conducting a study on the proposal of brokerage for securities. Later, securities companies can participate as intermediaries in carbon trading on carbon exchanges.

Regarding brokerage, Denny explained that this is still a concept that is being studied. However, there are several securities companies that have provided carbon exchange trading services.

Denny said the IDX not only wants to expand the carbon trade sector on a domestic scale but will go international.

"The IDX is currently waiting for policies related to the opening of carbon trading in the international market. If it is international, the demand will increase. Hopefully we can unlock all the value," he said.

Denny conveyed that with the help of the Exchange Members, they hoped that the carbon exchange trade would increase and be crowded.

For information, from September 26 to September 29, 2023, carbon exchange transactions reached IDR 29.21 billion with a volume of 459,953 tons of equivalent co2.
