Seconds Of Myanmar Military Raided Aung San Suu Kyi's Party Office, Confiscated Documents And Computer Hard Disk
JAKARTA - The Myanmar military raided the headquarters and offices of the executive committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, the party led by Aung San Suu Kyi, at two separate locations in Yangon on Tuesday evening local time.
Following protests against the increasingly widespread coup in Myanmar, the Military Junta announced a curfew, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., and banned gatherings of more than five people.
At exactly 10pm, Myanmar military personnel moved to two office locations, namely the NLD headquarters in Shwe Gone Daing, the Municipality of Materials and the Executive Committee office in Tamwe Township.
Arriving at the destination, the Myanmar military entered the party office by breaking down the door. It was not clear whether any party members were detained in this raid and how long the raid lasted. However, the Myanmar military is known to have taken various important items belonging to the party.
"The military confiscated property from the office, including documents and computer hard disks. We strongly condemn this illegal act by the military," said U Kyi Toe, a member of the NLD Central Information Committee, as reported by The Irrawaddy.
Following the coup on February 1, NLD offices across Myanmar states and territories were raided by the military and guarded by troops. The NLD member said that apart from closing the office, the Military Junta also closed the office, took down a photo of Aung San Suu Kyi and the party flag.
