JAKARTA - At least 359 people, mostly residents of Bilogai, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua, chose to flee to the church after the shooting of civilians was carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB).

Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Grand Commissioner (Kombes) Ahmad Kamal, said that hundreds of residents chose to flee because of fear of shooting.

"It is true that there were residents who fled and members of the Intan Jaya Police had already visited the church which was the place of evacuation, Tuesday, February 9," he said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 10.

In fact, one community leader, who declined to be named, admitted that he and the residents had secured himself because he was afraid of the terror committed by the KKB.

"We want to live safely like our brothers in other areas in Papua and we support the presence of the National Army-Police (TNI-Polri) because since the KKB has been around the village, residents have always been afraid," said Kamal, quoting a statement from one of the displaced residents, Tomas.
