Like Hiding The Smell Of Poop In The World Of Education
JAKARTA - The smell of rottenness swept through the world of education. About the dozens of grade VII students of the Mother of All Nations Seminary in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) who were stuffed with feces or feces by their seniors at school. The incident should have been hidden. However, the name "shit", no matter how much it is covered up, the rot will still spread.
The torture occurred Wednesday, February 19, when the seventh grade students gathered for lunch. After that, they returned to the dormitory to rest. A strange incident happened there. Two seniors who are also assistants - namely Budi and Arif - from class XII found a bag filled with feces in an empty cupboard.
Budi and Arif then asked where the shit came from. However, no one knows. Budi and Arif's anger is rising. Torture started. With a spoon, Budi and Arif stuffed the dirt into the mouths and tongues of 77 - out of a total of 89 - grade VII students. After launching their insolent action, Budi and Arif threatened their juniors to shut up. Their rotten behavior must be covered up.
However, who could stand the shadows of shit in their mouths. A seventh grade student then told the events he had experienced to his parents. The story was responded to by a report that was thrown by the parents to a WhatsApp group containing school public relations. The news spread to other parents who then took the incident to the police.
Criminal
Head of Public Relations of the NTT Regional Police, Kombes Johannes Bangun, said that this case is now in the first steps of prosecution. According to him, investigators have already extracted information from several parties related to the incident.
"The Police have carried out initial investigative steps by conducting interrogations of the two suspected perpetrators and the three victims along with the two school teachers," said Johannes.
An examination is carried out to prove the existence of a criminal offense. If proven, then Budi and Arif must be prepared to take responsibility for their insolent actions legally. So far, the police have linked Budi and Arif's actions to a case about unpleasant deeds.
"Can be charged with the article of an unpleasant act, namely Article 335 of the Criminal Code," Johannes briefly.
It is known, cases involving the superiority of seniors over juniors in an educational environment are not new. Several other cases occurred throughout Indonesia, from time to time. There is something wrong with a culture of excessive seniority like that of Budi and Arif.
Seniority
Sociologist, Bayu A. Yulianto, said that the action of seniority is an outlet for the perpetrators who are actually unable to convey the pressure or burden on their minds. Even in a case involving Budi and Arif.
Bayu saw that there was a high probability that Budi and Arif would receive more pressure at school. This is what is said to have an impact on increasing their stress levels.
In this perspective, the perpetrators of bullying can also be called victims. They are part of the oppressed or oppressed by the environment. Therefore, they are looking for an outlet to channel their restlessness.
"So, the perpetrator himself can also be seen as a victim of other structures that also suppress and oppress him. So, he feels he is in a situation of anxiety that must be resolved. He can channel it to the parties around him who are in a weaker position," said Bayu. .
For this reason, it was said, the role of schools was needed to cut or resolve the problem of bullying. At least, there are six steps that can be taken to anticipate the recurrence of a similar case.
First, the school must build inclusiveness for those who are classified as vulnerable to receiving bullying. Then, schools must have data and information about those who are classified as vulnerable.
Third, teachers or teaching staff must be provided with training to identify vulnerable groups in schools. Furthermore, schools must create some kind of formal mechanism to prevent bullying from occurring.
Fifth, it is important to pay greater attention to family factors. Finally, namely, the government in this case must encourage the inclusive school policy to be implemented consistently in every school.
"Some of these points are important as precautionary measures, because actions such as bullying have often occurred in educational settings," said Bayu.
