Travel Restrictions In Germany Related To COVID-19 Make Gladbach Vs Man City Expelled To Budapest
JAKARTA - Borussia Moenchengladbach will face Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League Last 16 in Budapest. Travel restrictions related to COVID-19 imposed by Germany prevented the Premier League team from entering Adolf Hitler's country.
Moenchengladbach was supposed to host the Premier League leaders on February 24, but Germany has banned all arrivals from areas affected by the COVID-19 mutation except for German citizens or residents. The ban is in effect until February 17.
"UEFA can confirm that the first leg of the Champions League Last 16 between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Manchester City will now be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest," the European soccer association said.
"UEFA thanks Borussia Moenchengladbach and Manchester City for their close cooperation and support, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation for their assistance and willingness to host the match."
The first leg between the Round of 16 of this competition between RB Leipzig and Liverpool also moved to Budapest.
UEFA also confirmed that Molde will face Hoffenheim in the first leg of the Europa League last 32 in Spain.
