Atletico Madrid's Series Of Victory Stopped In The Hands Of Celta Vigo

JAKARTA - Celta Vigo halted Atletico Madrid's streak of victories after holding to a 2-2 draw with the Spanish League standings in the 23rd match at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid, Spain, Monday local time.

Facundo Ferreyra's goal one minute approaching normal time broke Atletico's lead thanks to Luis Suarez's two goals that pays Celta's goal opener through Santi Mina earlier in the match.

The result finished Atletico's winning streaks in the previous eight matches, but Diego Simeone's team remains entrenched at the top of the standings with 51 points or eight points ahead of their closest competitors and has saved one more game.

On the other hand, despite being able to stop Atletico's good trend, Celta (26) has not been able to get out of a poor record without a win in six consecutive matches and only secured 10th place in the standings, according to Antara's official Spanish League page.

Celta went into the game taking possession of the ball and in the 13th minute stole the lead as Mina stood free to finish off Hugo Mallo's cross.

Then the match took place at a slow tempo and there were not many significant opportunities until right on the 45th minute Suarez brought Atletico level by welcoming Marcos Llorente's attractive pass.

The goal marked Suarez's success to always put his name on the scoreboard in Atletico's last four matches.

Able to balance out, Atletico entered the second half with more attacking initiative and a slightly higher tempo with each possession.

As a result, in the 50th minute, Suarez scored his second goal with a meticulous finish following Renan Lodi's volley to give Atletico a 2-1 lead over Celta.

Six minutes later, Celta immediately tried to balance out but Iago Aspas' shot was thwarted by Geoffrey Kondogbia, who put up the body to block the ball.

In the 82nd minute, Atletico had a good chance to seal victory when Lodi's throwing ball fell in front of Jose Gimenez who unfortunately snatched it with a shot that went off target.

That failure recently had to be paid handsomely by Atletico because one minute before normal time their defensive line suddenly fell too low and Augusto Solari was able to penetrate and send a bait which Ferreyra finished perfectly to cheat the ball into Jan Oblak's goal.

Two points slipped from Atletico's hands because of negligence at the end of a match which ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the next match, Celta will play early this Friday when they host Elche at Balaidos, while Atletico appear the day before in Granada.
