Police Allow Ustaz Maheer At Thuwailibi To Die

JAKARTA - The National Police confirmed that Soni Ernata alias Ustaz Maheer At Thuwailibi died. Ustaz Maheer died at the Police Headquarters Detention Center at 19.00 WIB.

"It is true (Ustaz Maheer At Thuwailibi passed away) due to illness," said Karo Penmas Police Headquarters Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono, Monday, February 8.

Previously, Maheer's attorney, Juju Purwantoro, confirmed this news. His client died after previously undergoing treatment due to illness.

"Yes, it is true (passed away). Since starting to enter the Criminal Investigation Unit, he is still doing outpatient treatment for his intestinal surgery," Juju told VOI, Jakarta, Monday, February 8.

According to Juju, the late Maheer was already sick before being detained. "When I entered I told him he was still on outpatient treatment. Two weeks ago he also just returned from the Police Hospital," he said.

The police arrested Soni Ernata alias Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi for alleged hate speech via his personal Twitter account @ustadzmaheer_. He was considered to have insulted Habib Luthfi bin Yahya.
