Political Agreements To Determine The Continuation Of The Papua And West Papua Special Autonomy Funds In 2021

JAKARTA - The government has decided to evaluate the distribution of the special autonomy funds (autonomy) for Papua and West Papua. The limit for the government to distribute autonomy funds to Papua and West Papua is until the end of 2021. This is stipulated in Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Special Autonomy of Papua Province.

Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazara said that he was still waiting for input from various parties related to the distribution of special autonomy for Papua and West Papua. One of them is from the Papua Special Committee who is in the DPD RI.

"Otsus 2021 we started quite early in 2020. We really appreciate the DPD making this special special committee. Because we understand it as leading public input to the improvement of this special autonomy and future directions. We are ready to support, if there is anything that needs to be explored again, our friends. "He has a lot of data," he said at the DPD RI working meeting with the Deputy Minister of Finance on special autonomy funds (Otsus) and the Post-2022 Papua Special Autonomy Blueprint, at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 25.

Suahasil said the continuation of the Papua and West Papua special autonomy funds after 2021 was also determined by a political agreement later. This is because laws (UU) are a political product.

Regarding Otsus, Suahasil said, there are two levels that affect it. First, at the political level, because laws are political products. So, it is necessary to look at the process and its dynamics together. Second, the financial level as a consequence of the political order.

"So in first principle, of course we will guide the political agreement that will be like in the future. However, we want to provide input from what we have felt in the political agreement. Including from the financial side. This is what we might be able to convey a number of things related to what we have felt. finance. We also need to look at a somewhat bigger level, "he explained.

Previously, at the meeting, the government confirmed that it would extend the policy or not to ask directly by the Chairman of the Special Committee for Papua DPD, Filep Wamafma.

"We are heading for 2021 to reduce the special autonomy fund for Papua and West Papua. We want to hear whether the current allocation will be maintained from the Ministry of Finance or will there be an addition or an increase in the future? local government activities, "said Filep.
