Menpora Dito Attends Breaking Of The World's Largest Angklung Performance Record
JAKARTA - Indonesia has again successfully broken the Guinness World Records (GWR) world record. This time, the record for the largest angklung event in the world or The Largest Angklung Ensemble in the World which took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK), Jakarta, Saturday, August 5, in the context of the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo was also present at this activity. Together with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and other officials, Menpora Dito witnessed the breakdown of the record initiated by the Solidarity Action Organization of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet Era (OASE KIM).
The biggest angklung event in the world is not just an effort to break records, but also an effort to preserve Indonesian culture that is already worldwide. Moreover, angklung is a traditional musical instrument from West Java that UNESCO has recognized as an intangible cultural heritage.
Starting at 19.00 WIB, this record-breaking presents a simultaneous angklung game by 15,240 angklung players from various circles. Includes OASE KIM members, high school students, and official schools, ministry/institutional representatives, to the Unity Women's Dharma (DWP) institution and the PKK Mobilization Team.
"After being planned for last year and training for approximately three months, we are ready to carry out a grand event for an effort to break the world record for the Angklung event in the world," said the Chairperson of the Angklung Performance Panita, Tri Tito Karnavian in his report.
These performers were trained by Saung Angklung Udjo, who was a partner in the record-breaking effort. In this record-breaking effort, national and popular songs were performed by Indonesian musicians with angklung music accompaniments. Starting from the song My Love from Chrisye, Pursuing Matahari from Ari Lasso, to Rungkad from Happy Asmara. Sonia as the official judge of the Guinness World of Record, explained that the previous record for The Largest Angklung Ensemble in the World was 5,182 angklung players. This record was previously printed by the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC in 2011.
