Menpora Dito Calls The Opening Of The U-17 World Cup At JIS And Closing At Manahan Stadium

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir confirmed that the opening of the 2023 U-17 World Cup will take place at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). Meanwhile, the closing location will be held at the Manahan Stadium in Solo.

This was conveyed by Erick after holding a coordination meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono at the Ministry of PUPR, Jakarta, Wednesday 9 August.

"The opening will be held at JIS. The closure is in Solo (Manahan Stadium). But for the opening, don't be connotated like the World Cup, it's not that big," said Erick.

The U-17 World Cup will take place on November 10-2 December 2023. There are four stadiums that are venues. The four are the Jakarta International Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo), and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya).

Menpora Dito added that in the coordination meeting, his party would convey to FIFA that transportation for Jakarta-Bandung would use a high-speed train.

"As previously stated, there are four stadiums that will be used, namely Manahan Stadium, Si Jalak Harupat, JIS, and also Gelora Bung Tomo," said Menpora Dito.

"Now the opening will be carried out at JIS and closing in Solo. Even at this stage we ask FIFA for transportation plans from Jakarta-Bandung by high-speed train," he continued.

Previously, FIFA had conducted inspections of the four venues. Starting from July 29 to August 1. The government has also obtained records from FIFA and further stadium renovations will be carried out.
