PLN Collaborates with UAE Energy Company for Expansion of Cirata Floating PLTS
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Power plans to expand the Cirata Solar Power Plant (PLTS) or Floating PLTS in Purwakarta, West Java, which currently has a capacity of 192 megawatt peak (MWp).
The development of the Cirata Floating PLTS will be carried out by PLN together with Masdar, a company from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The two of them are known to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU at the UAE-Indonesia Economic Forum in Jakarta, Thursday, September 21.
Main Director of PLN Nusantara Power Ruly Firmansyah said, with the capacity of the Floating PLTS now reaching 192 MWp, it has become one of the Floating PLTS with the largest capacity in the world.
"We are working with Masdar to carry out research in developing the Cirata Floating PLTS to become larger. Seeing the potential and land area of Lake Cirata that can be used, this expansion is very likely to be carried out," said Ruly in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, September 23.
The Cirata Floating PLTS was built by PLN Nusantara Power through its subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Renewables in collaboration with Masdar.
This collaboration is currently entering finalization with PLN Nusantara Renewables' share ownership of 51 percent and Masdar's share ownership of 49 percent.
The PLTS, which was built with an investment value of IDR 1.7 trillion, is a project that will support the realization of Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

Later, the PLTS, which occupies an area of 200 hectares (ha), will produce 245 million kWh of energy per year and can supply electricity equivalent to 50.000 households.
Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan admitted that he had formed a task force to accelerate the investment partnership between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). One of the areas that will be worked on is accelerating the development of new renewable energy (EBT).
"Indonesia has various strategic NRE development potentials. One of them is the National Capital City (IKN) which is currently in the development stage. Through this forum, investors will see the various potentials that exist, especially in the EBT sector," he said.
