Dozens Of Houses In Banyuwangi Were Damaged By Strong Winds
BANYUWANGI - Dozens of houses in two villages in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java was slightly damaged due to strong winds. Two residents were injured by falling and being swept away by the wind.
Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Banyuwangi Eka Muharram said strong winds hit dozens of residents' houses in Sraten Village, Cluring District, and Tapanrejo Village, Muncar District.
"Many people say it's a tornado, but from its character, it's actually a very strong wind blowing, so that on average the roofs of many residents' houses are damaged", he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, February 5.
Eka said, strong winds that hit the houses of residents in Sraten Village, recorded that there were about 25 houses whose roofs were damaged by the wind. Meanwhile, in Tapanrejo Village, six houses were also damaged on the roof.
Regarding two residents of Sraten Village who were injured as a result of being swept away by strong winds, said Eka, they had been taken to the local Puskesmas to get medical treatment.
"The two injured residents were already elderly, and both of them were dragged and fell when the strong winds came", he said.
Eka Muharram appealed to the public to continue to be vigilant and be careful about entering the rainy season, including floods and landslides.
"We appeal to the public when there is a strong wind or tornado if they feel that the roof of the house is not strong enough to save themselves outside the house. For flood disasters, it is hoped that the community will also participate by observing the condition of the rivers in their environment", he said.
According to the information gathered, the worst strong winds hit Sraten Village, Muncar District. Not only were tens of roofs destroyed by the residents' houses, but several trees had been knocked down by strong winds.
