Adrian Vandenberg: I Have Nothing To Do With Vivian Campbell's Dismissal From Whitesnake

JAKARTA - In an interview with Real Music With Gary Stuckey recently, former Whitesnake guitarist Adrian Vandenberg recalled the moment Vivian Campbell fired.

Vivian - who is currently under the auspices of Def Leppard - became part of Whitesnake from 1987 to 1988. Asked if Vivian was really fired because Adrian didn't want Whitesnake to have two guitarists, Adrian said.

"No. I don't know where the myth came from, because I always knew that Whitesnake was a band with two guitars. I thought it came from Vivian. Vivian is not someone who likes camping and is in Whitesnake. So it has something to do with the fact that David [Coverdale, leader of WHITESNAKE] stopped working with Vivian.

"But the main reason is Vivian's wife has problems with everyone in the band. She is annoying for sound staff, lighting staff, management, everything; it's getting very complicated. And Vivian doesn't like it, it seems."

"The songs Vivian suggested, according to David, were not suitable for Whitesnake. So in the end, it didn't work. And I heard from various fans at the time that Vivian thought I had something to do with David who didn't want to continue working with Vivian. I had nothing to do with it. I heard from the tour manager that they sent Vivian home. I don't know. I think I'm fine with Vivian. I don't know."

When asked if he had the opportunity to talk to Vivian ever since and straighten things out, Adrian firmly said no.

"Well, unfortunately no. I hope one day I can, because of course it's been a long time. But still it still bothers me a bit that he thinks I have something to do with it, because apparently he said it in several interviews. But the time to heal all the wounds. He performed great with Def Leppard, so I don't think he complained."
