Closed Tuesday Rupiah Weakened To Rp13,887 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - Rupiah on the spot market closed in a mellow manner on Tuesday, February 25 trading. The rupiah closed down 0.11 percent to a level of Rp13,887 per US dollar (US).
Analysts assess that the economic impact of the spread of corona is still a major highlight. On the other hand, markets are waiting for Federal Reserve officials to comment this week on the impact of the virus and the direction of Uncle Sam's economic policy.
The rupiah weakened amid the strengthening of other Asian currencies. There are only three currencies that have weakened along with the rupiah.
Launching Bloomberg, the Philippine peso became the currency with the biggest weakness in Asia, which weakened 0.29 percent against the US dollar, followed by the Thai baht with 0.16 percent weakening, the Malaysian ringgit 0.16 percent and the rupiah weakening 0.11 percent.
Meanwhile the majority of other Asian currencies strengthened against the US dollar this afternoon. The Korean won led the strengthening of Asian currencies with an increase of 0.78 percent, the Taiwan dollar strengthened 0.31 percent, the Indian rupee strengthened 0.19 percent, the Japanese yen strengthened 0.19 percent, the Chinese yuan strengthened 0.16 percent, the Singapore dollar strengthened 0 , 15 percent and the Hong Kong dollar strengthened 0.04 percent against the US dollar.
