Jorginho's Penalty Makes Spurs Suffers Their Third Defeat In 8 Days

JAKARTA - Jorginho's penalty was enough to bring Chelsea to a 1-0 close victory at the Tottenham Hotspur headquarters, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on Thursday or Friday morning local time.

The victory boosted the Blues to sixth place in the Premier League standings with a collection of 36 points, while for the Spurs the result slipped them to eighth place with 33 points, Antara reported from the Premier League official website.

Thomas Tuchel's men had an early chance when Timo Werner's header went wide. But they only managed to break the deadlock in the 24th minute, after being awarded a penalty for Eric Dier's foul on Werner in the forbidden box.

Jorginho took the penalty perfectly.

Werner had a good chance to double Chelsea's lead, but this time his shot was well blocked by Serge Aurier.

Tottenham's Erik Lamela had a chance to balance the score, but his shot can be warded off so that it went wide by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

In the final phase of the match, it was Vinicius' turn to have a good chance to secure a point for the Spurs, but his header also went wide.

This is the third defeat in eight days for the Spurs after they were defeated 1-3 by their guests Liverpool on January 28, and then fell 0-1 at Brighton on Sunday, January 31.

It is also the first time in Spurs manager Jose Mourinho's coaching career having suffered two successive defeats at home.

Chelsea will strive to record two straight victories when they visit Sheffield United in their next league fixture on Sunday, 7 February, while the Spurs will try to get their way out of the crisis when they host bottom side team, West Bromwich Albion, on the same day.
