Mother And Child In Cianjur Died After Eating Tutug Oncom Rice

CIANJUR - A mother and child from the Kelurahan Sayang, Cianjur Subdistrict, Cianjur, West Java, died after consuming tutug oncom rice that they processed themselves.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for Cianjur Police, AKP Anton said that his party had taken samples of tutug oncom rice which were suspected as the cause of the death of the mother and child on behalf of Aidah (45) and her eldest son Fuji (20) for examination in the laboratory. The two victims were treated at Cianjur Hospital, but their lives could not be helped.

"The sample will be submitted to the Cianjur Health Office, for further testing in the laboratory to determine the cause of the death of the two victims after consuming oncom or not," he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 4.

While the provisional suspicion is that the oncom product is the cause of poisoning, resulting in the death of the mother and child, but it is not yet certain whether there is an element of negligence in the processing or whether the oncom contains dangerous ingredients

The oncom was given by a neighbor who was suspected of being the cause of the poisoning. It was only processed after two days of storage.

Meanwhile, Head of the Section for Survailance and Immunization of the Cianjur Health Service, Asep Helmi, said that the sample would be tested at the West Java Health Lab, where the testing process took one week until the results were out and it was confirmed what bacteria or dangerous substances were contained in it.

"The sample has been taken to the Bandung Regional Health Laboratory, just waiting for the lab results, to ascertain what causes the two people consisting of mother and child died after consuming tutug oncom rice or other causes," he said.

A family consisting of father, mother and son named Dedi Sunardi (55), Aidah (45) and their eldest son Fuji (20), a resident of Kelurahan Sayang, had time to consume oncom given by their neighbors which was processed into tutug oncom rice which was consumed after two days.

After a few hours after consuming the tutug oncom rice, said Dedi, he was the first to feel dizzy, nauseous and vomiting. After a few hours, his wife felt the same way, so she had time to undergo treatment at the Puskesmas and received special treatment.

"My wife received treatment from night and evening, my wife passed away due to acute dehydration. Meanwhile, our eldest son who experienced the same thing followed his mother after a few hours," he said.
