Foreign Minister Emphasizes The Need For Serious Realization Of ASEAN Summit Results
JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasized that various related parties, including Indonesia, need to seriously do various things to realize the results of the ASEAN Summit.
"Because everyone says that, it means that we all want that. Now it's just a matter of how we achieve what we want," Retno said at a press conference at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 7.
Previously, Indonesia had organized the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, NTT in May 2023. Then the ASEAN 43rd Summit series was held on September 4-7, 2023.
Indonesia has the theme ASEAN Chairship 2023, namely "ASEAN Matters Epicentrum of Growth". The vision of ASEAN Indonesia's 2023 chairmanship leads to ASEAN's resilience, adaptive, and inclusive development capabilities, as well as a central and beneficial role for the whole community.
Indonesia has served as ASEAN Chair five times, namely in 1976, 1996, 2003, 2011, and 2023.
In chairmanship, Indonesia plays an active role in advancing and increasing the interests of ASEAN benefit, ensuring ASEAN centrality, ensuring effective and timely responses to critical situations, and representing ASEAN strengthening relations with partners.
Retno said the 43rd ASEAN Summit was to continue what had been agreed at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.
"If you look at the 42nd Summit, what is produced at the 42nd Summit, most of them respond to the needs of the community. For example, the problem of protecting migrant workers, protecting crew members, creating village networks, then One Health Initiative," explained Retno.

Retno explained things that had been agreed upon by ASEAN at the 42nd Summit in Labuan Bajo, then translated in collaboration with ASEAN partners at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.
"So in ASEAN Plus Three (APT), cooperation between ASEAN and plus three emerged, Korea, Japan, China, regarding the development of the EV (electric vehicle) ecosystem, and many more," said Retno.
Retno mentioned several collaborations with ASEAN partners that could support Epicentrum of Growth, such as food security, energy security, and health.
In addition, Retno also said that it is very important to be part of efforts to create stability, security, and peace.
